In the early 1980’s Richard Glass fell into the film industry. One of the first films he fitted/supplied and looked after was Star Wars – Return of the Jedi, and all these years later we are still very much involved in this small but very crucial part of many film/TV productions.
Richard owns and runs Grant and Glass Opticians, the sister company to The Reel Eye Company where all the actors come in to to be fitted and have all their required health checks before we can proceed with the supply of contact lenses. Grant and Glass Opticians has been in Radlett, Hertfordshire since the 1990’s and it is also the home of The Reel Eye Company.
We pride ourselves on providing lenses and care for the actors to the highest of standards and we are backed by our governing bodies who provide us the correct malpractice insurances to make sure we are covered for the work we do in the UK. We have a team of highly qualified and experienced Opticians who we send out to continue the care on set whilst aiding the filming schedules. Our aim is to ensure that the production is not set back because of the use of contact lenses but to make it a smooth process whilst keeping the actors safe. Actor safety is our top priority and as Opticians we are there to ensure that the correct rules and regulations are met.
Our contact lenses are made by well known contact lens manufacturers and are CE marked and meet the highest safety standards. Our main suppliers include Cantor and Nissel and No7 contact lenses, they have wonderful artists who handpaint the lenses alongside using other fantastic methods to give us the looks we require.
